GPD joins Global Coalition for Digital Safety

GPD has joined the World Economic Forum (WEF)’s Global Coalition for Digital Safety, a public private platform for global, multistakeholder cooperation to develop innovations and advance collaborations that tackle harmful content and conduct online.

The 31-strong coalition includes representatives from key tech companies including Meta, Google, and Microsoft, as well as civil society organisations, national institutions and regulators, think tanks, and governments.

As part of the coalition, GPD plans to contribute to its core focus areas (outlined here), leveraging GPD’s considerable experience in the online content space—developing rights-respecting approaches to platform regulation, engaging with processes, companies, and governments around the world, and providing in-depth monitoring and analysis of new laws and policies.

Commenting on GPD’s accession to the coalition, Executive Director Lea Kaspar said: “As we move into 2022, questions around online safety and human rights have never been so urgent. As part of the Global Coalition for Digital Safety, our overriding focus will be supporting the development of approaches that centre and protect the enjoyment of human rights”.
