This calendar displays all the upcoming events relevant to AI in seven forums: the Council of Europe, European Union, Global Partnership on AI, International Telecommunication Union, UN General Assembly (Third Committee), UN Human Rights Council, UN Secretary General’s Roadmap for Digital Cooperation, and UNESCO.

UN AHC Third Substantive Session
The UN Ad Hoc Committee to Elaborate a Comprehensive International Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communications Technologies for Criminal Purposes (AHC), established by the General Assembly in its resolution 74/247, held its second and third substantive sessions in 2022.
The AHC Under the auspices of the UN Third Committee, which focuses on Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Issues, the AHC is mandated with drafting a new cybercrime convention for submission via. draft resolution to the UN General Assembly for consideration and adoption at its 79th session in 2024.

Second Plenary Meeting of CAI
The second plenary meeting of CAI will be taking place in Strasbourg, France from 21 – 23 September 2022. Ahead of the meeting, GPD had the opportunity to provide feedback on the zero draft of a new legal instrument on artificial intelligence, which will be discussed during this session.
51st Regular Session of the Human Rights Council
HR51 will see the release of the “Report on the Right to Privacy in the Digital Age (2022), into which GPD submitted a joint input with project partners.
Additionally, ahead of HRC51, the Council aims to have publicly announced its selection for the new High Commissioner for Human Rights. Whomever is selected will be replacing Michelle Bachelet, who announced in June 2022 that she would not run for a second term.
UNESCO Global Conference on Universal Access to Information
The 2022 UNESCO Global Conference on Universal Access to Information will take place from 28 – 29 September. The conference will host an inter-ministerial roundtable on Access to Information and Artificial Intelligence with the participation of International experts. This event will be an opportunity to discuss, in several panel discussions, Access to Information and Artificial Intelligence, covering both benefits and risks, against the backdrop of good governance principles.
ITU Plenipotentiary Conference
The International Telecommunication Union’s Plenipotentiary Conference (ITUPP) will be taking place in Bucharest, Romania from 26 September – 14 October 2022. Taking place every four years, the ITUPP sets out the organisation’s strategic and financial agenda for the future.
During the conference, there will be a number of discussions on a range of issues concerning internet governance and emerging technologies. The election of the next Secretary-General will also be taking place during this year’s conference.

Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE)
The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) is a committee of the European Parliament that is responsible for protecting civil liberties and human rights, and has oversight of submitting feedback on the EU’s draft AI act.
European Parliament Subcommittee on Human Rights Meeting
The Subcommittee on Human Rights scrutinises the implementation of the EU’s human rights policy, including its impact and contribution in effectively promoting respect for human rights standards and the principles of rule of law and democracy. The subcommittee also analyses the impact of AI on human rights, and provides recommendations on rights-respecting AI governance.

ITU Telecommunication Standardization Advisory Group Meeting
The first meeting of the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) Telecommunication Standardization Advisory Group (TSAG) will be taking place from 12 – 16 December 2022.
TSAG is tasked with preparing the restructuring of the ITU’s standardization expert groups (ITU‑T study groups) for the 2022-2024 study period. The leaders of these groups play a central role in determining the basis of the future ITU-T study group strategy.
