GPD selected to advise Global Forum on Cyber Expertise

GPD’s Head of Programmes and International Policy, Lea Kaspar, has been selected to join the Advisory Board of the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise (GFCE).

The GFCE is a global platform for countries, international organisations and private companies to exchange best practices and expertise on cyber capacity building. Its newly established Advisory Board, comprising two co-chairs and nine members, representing civil society, academia and technical communities, is tasked – among other things – with providing advice on the overall strategic direction of the GFCE to its members (read the full terms of reference here).

GPD’s representation on the GFCE board builds on our broader work on cyber policy issues. Last year, we played a significant role in broadening civil society participation in the 2015 Global Conference on Cyberspace (GCCS), and are currently leading a major cyber capacity programme which aims to make cyber policymaking processes around the world more inclusive. Our recently published guide to cybersecurity policy for human rights defenders can be read here.

As a longstanding advocate of greater transparency and openness within the GFCE, GPD will use its influence on the board to advance this agenda, with a particular focus on opening the forum’s initiatives up to non-members.
